panice and anxiety gone

"Panic and Anxiety can be debilitating to your life.  It will keep you from doing social events and limit everything you do.  I have read an ebook that was very helpful in eliminating and controlling the panic and anxiety.  I was afraid to go out and now can enjoy an evening with friends in a relaxed state.  The Panic and anxiety book tells you what causes this and the best way to learn to avoid the anxiety attack before it starts."  - Bindi Watts

What is the best way to manage anxiety without meds ot therapy?

By admin · Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Can a person do that without medication? I have anxiety about things, but I don’t want to get on medication. How can I control it myself? Sometimes I get mild anxiety attacks where I can’t catch my breath. I don’t always hyperventillate, but I do get that feeling that I can’t catch my breath. or can’t take a deep breath. Any comments or advice?

I am not trying to be unhelpful… but you are stating that you want to do it "without meds or therapy"… that in itself is an anxiety provoking situation because you are putting unreasonable expectations on yourself.
I can understand if you do not want to take medication (you may want to reconsider as medication can help tremendously) but you are also saying no to therapy? Therapy is very helpful as you can often find it for free or on a sliding scale through your county, and your therapist can teach you breathing and relaxation techniques that will help you overcome both panic attacks and generalized anxiety. Furthermore, they can assist you in walking through the though process that can aggravate anxiety.

My thoughts… there is no quick fix to your problem, and you may nee to re-evaluate your approach.

Exercise helps a lot. Especially things like yoga because they teach you relaxation techniques. A good diet also helps. I’ve found that some foods, like too many sweets, can actually add to my anxiety. You also may consider talking to a professional councelor about some other ideas. Tell them straight up that you prefer not to go on medication.

Try relaxing & imagine that you are in a relaxing place for you, it can be beach, mountains, even your childhood room.
I use the beach – close your eyes imagine the beach, feel the breezes, listen to the seagulls, hear the constant sound of the waves, breathe in slowly & blow the air out of you mouth to count of ten. Repeat the breathing. Keep your hands open flat – clinching your fists create anxiety.

It cost me $210 an hour to get the advice. I use it often, if it does not help you may need medication. I rarely use medication & now I love the beach.
Try using it before the anxiety has complete control, it is hard to control panic attacks. It can be done but it is hard.

this is a very good question. first of all, it depends if the anxiety is "situational" or "generalized." do you only feel these feelings when you are preparing to be around people, conduct a seminar, or take a test (or any other of a host of situations that can create stress) or do you feel this way throughout the day without any particular reason? if it is the latter, i think you might benefit from an anti-anxiety medication. sometimes, things just get on top of us in life, and being anxious, tense and miserable is very bad for your physical health. doctors many times would rather see you deal with what’s causing the anxiety while putting you on a mild anti-anxiety medication than for you to get sick in other ways. i understand your concern about taking medication, but temporary relief while seeking psychotherapy can do wonders. if you don’t feel that you can get on top of this, see your family doctor, and seek some counseling. in the meantime, yoga, hot baths, massages and deep breathing can help.

There are anxiety tapes if you don’t want to actually go to a therapist. Meds and therapy are the typical treatment for anxiety. Avoid caffeine…it enhances anxiety greatly. Good luck.

Just keep telling yourself panic attacks come and go. Remember that they aren’t permanent. i just quit clonzepam cold turkey because i have decided this med slows up my mind too much to take care of myself. i am 64 and maybe it is harder for me to taking these kind of drugs. nothing has worked for. they make me too stupid and i make too many mistakes and get too forgetful and absent-minded. i will remind myself panic attacks don’t last forever. actually, i am off clonzepam for one week and i am okay. good luck to your. (some people like meds and some people don’t like the sideeffects — too easy, the magic bullet approach for me.?

Try meditation, I have tried it and it worked for me. Go to meditation centers and enrol into a class, if you are serious abt getting better, you need to do this. Meditation not only helps you to remove yr present problems, but teaches you to empower yourself to solve other problems in life. It’s very powerful.

You can try a few things. For starters you can try deep slow breathes with your eyes closed in a quiet place for a few minutes. You can also journal, because when you let your thoughts and feelings out on paper you release the feelings from building up inside of you. It really realizes the stress.
