I think because the journey is only 2 minutes is the reason why you are still struggling. Exposure therapy only works when the exposure is prolonged over a long period of time – at least 90 minutes 3 times a week over several months. I don’t know how you would drag this 2 minute journey into a 90 minute trek, but 2 minutes only gives your brain the idea that the journey is scary, and doesnt give your brain the time to realise the journey is harmless. I hope this helps.

I’m no therapist, but I do think that we can unintentionally sabotage our own exposure work when our thought patterns are working against us. I think it has to be a combination of both – changing our physical behavior and the way we’re thinking. Either by itself isn’t that effective, at least in my case.
Try getting into a more positive frame of mind with regard to what you can do and accomplish. Its going to be very hard and SCARY, but its doable.

I think i believe that where i tend to think exposure doesn’t work (for ME), is that for the last SIX years i have been taking my son to school in the mornings and even still, now, after all this time its a struggle. A struggle to go TWO minutes…what the is that all about???

Good point, understand exactly what your thinking. I think for it to work it must be done almost everyday and going a little farther each time, even if i set back occurs got to get right back into it the next day. Great Job……
